Facts about Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Nowadays, drug and alcohol addiction has been one of the major problems of United States and every once in a while, we drink. We drink wine at dinner; we have a few drinks after work; or drink while watching a ball game. This is where the pattern of drinking begins, which surely leads to addiction.
Today, 90% of teenage population had used alcohol, 50% had used marijuana, 17% tried cocaine, and 12.5% had used hallucinogens.

- The average of first experimentation with drug is 13, and for alcohol it is even younger. Drug use has been classified as a major problem for kids as early as fourth grade by the students themselves.
- Alcohol is the most widely used drug in America. It is the third largest cause of death in the United State, second only to heart disease and cancer.
- Alcohol and tobacco use are significant risk factor in heart disease and cancer and over 100,000 deaths per year in this country alone.
- Alcohol and other drug contribute to 50% of all suicides and 50% of all violent crimes.
- 60% of admissions to emergency rooms are either directly and indirectly due to drug or alcohol usage.
