- In 2007, 3.3% of 12-17 years old have abused prescription drugs in the past month.
- In 2007, 6% of 17-25 years old have abuse prescription drugs in the past month.
- Prescription drug abuse causes the largest percentage of deaths from drug overdosing. 22,400 drug overdose in the US in 2005.
- Over 1.4 million drug-related has been admitted in emergency room in 2005.
- 598,542 were associated with abuse of pharmaceuticals alone or with other drugs.
Side effects of prescription drugs:
- High body temperature
- Drowsiness
- Nausea

- Health problems – opioids can cause chocking changes in mood, decreased cognitive function, and slow breathing.
- Addiction –Some of these medications are addictive
- Accidents – Drug can cause accidents.
- Poor academic performance – Student think that taking prescription drug can boost their school performance or ease anxiety but it the end they end up having the opposite effect.
- Legal trouble – Taking medication that isn’t prescribed to you is illegal.
